1) Kleinman Report Update

With summer coming to a close I realized that I was long over due for another installment of The Kleinman Report. It's amazing how time flies when you have a new baby. Our daughter Hannah, now 9 months old, is an absolute wonder and joy. I've loved spending the last few months at home with her. Without further adieu, here's this month's Kleinman Report.

2) AltaVista's Free Internet Access

Recently AltaVista took the wraps off of a new free Internet access service called (appropriately) "FreeAccess". This new service, supported completely by advertising, requires you to run an advertising application that serves banners to you as you surf. Just like the free e-mail services (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.), advertising-supported Internet access will become a trend; look for Microsoft and Yahoo to follow suit soon!

3) Free Toll Free Phone Number

In the past few issues of The Kleinman Report we've covered a number of new free Internet fax and voice messaging services. This month we found one that absolutely tops them all. Sign up at Ureach.com to get your very own personal toll free phone number. Anyone calling your toll free number can leave you a voice message that's delivered via RealAudio to your free Ureach e-mail account. In addition to voice mail you can also use your toll free Ureach number to receive faxes. To complete the package, Ureach offers free outbound faxing from your account. Nowhere have we seen such an amazingly complete and outstanding offering than can be found at Ureach.

6) Yo've Got a Peekoolyar Way of Sayin' Thin's

You've probably heard about sites that translate web pages from one language to another. But have you ever heard of a site that will translate something into Pig Latin, Elmer Fudd or even Cockney? Meet The Dialectizer, a completely useless but wonderfully amusing web site that will have you looking at the web in a whole new way. Translate your favorite sites into a number of dialects including Redneck, Jive, Cockney, Elmer Fudd, Swedish Chef, Moron, or Pig Latin. You can also translate text and with a little cut-and-past, send a colorful e-mail to a friend. This site is worth a good laugh!

7) Cheap Books, and We Mean REALLY Cheap Books

The other day I was shopping at one of the major online bookstores for a new book. After a great deal of searching and review reading, I finally settled on Amnesiascope by Steve Erickson. When I went to check out, I realized that the book, which cost $9.60, didn't meet the $10 minimum of the coupon I was trying to use! Frustrated, I left the site and tried to find the book elsewhere for a lower price. That's when I stumbled on BookCloseouts.com. I was shocked to find the exact same book for only $3.99! What was even more unbelievable was that they also had the author 's first book, Arc D'X, which is out of print, for only $2.99! Even though the selection at Bookcloseouts can hit or miss, their deals are so amazing, it's definitely worth a check anytime you're going to buy a book online!

8) What's On My Nightstand - Nudist on The Late Shift by PO Bronson

A while ago I received Nudist on The Late Shift in the mail. As I began to thumb through it, I found myself stopping to read complete chapters. Within just a couple of days I had read the book from cover to cover (not a small feat considering we have a baby). Nudist on The Late Shift is an insightful look at what makes the Silicon Valley, and the people who are drawn to it, tick. It is a fascinating travelogue through one of the most profound periods of change and documents the effect of the Internet business boom on the people and the area. If you're interested at taking an inside look at the insanity that makes the Internet run, then read this book!

(…And if you like the author, bookcloseouts has his first two books for $3.99 each…. Just amazing!!)

9) Correction: Certifiedmail.com

Before we go, one quick correction: In the last issue we had the URL wrong for Certified Mail, an online service that allows you to send an certified e-mail to anyone on the net. The correct URL is http://www.certifiedmail.com
